Yesterday went according to schedule! I did go to a screening of Paul Verhoeven’s Tricked followed by Mira Nair’s The Reluctant Fundamentalist.
Tricked is part documentary and part scripted trifle. Paul Verhoeven started with the initial four minutes of a narrative film and then commissioned 700 people to contribute the rest of the script, the result is a crowd-sourced script. The first part of the film looks at the process of putting the film together and the second is the film itself. I was thrilled to see some really great Dutch talent that I was unfamiliar with prior to the film, particularly Gaite Jansen and Robert de Hoog.
The Reluctant Fundamentalist features a lovely lead performance from Riz Ahmed who is flanked by better known names Kiefer Sutherland, Kate Hudson, and Liev Schreiber. Part of the film was shot in NYC and I am always happy to see stage and screen favorites Victor Slezak and Nelsan Ellis in anything.
Today, I’ll be going to some industry events and then I’ll be see GBF tonight and a whole slate of films over the weekend. I’ll check back in on Monday.
