We’re a month into the new Fall TV season and after giving each new show a chance, I have come to some conclusions about this season’s offerings.
ABC’s Last Resort is hands down the best new show. The lead actors are fantastic, particularly Andre Braugher and Scott Speedman. The story is gripping and full of twists and turns. In a nutshell Last Resort is Revenge for guys (and girls who like a good thriller). If you don’t watch this show, go online and catch up or watch it on demand now before the show is canceled. The networks are not investing in quality program, and Last Resort deserves high honors.
Elementary on CBS is the other good show this season. It’s great to see Jonny Lee Miller with a role he can really sink his teeth into. I’m still waiting for Lucy Liu to have the opportunity to dig a little deeper into her Watson character. She showed real depth in her turn on Southland and I’m hoping she will have the opportunity to grow even more on Elementary
So, I try not to speak ill of the dead, but Made in Jersey took a great cast and a cute idea and squandered both. The cancelation was not a surprise. There are also a hand full of shows that looked promising, but just don’t make the grade. The networks either can’t or won’t push boundaries like the cable networks. As a result, some of these shows are just pretty lame.
Let’s face it: the comedies suck. I enjoy the Mindy Project and both Guys with Kids and Ben & Kate get better as the season progresses, but the rest of them are pretty dull and just not funny.
So now, I’m looking forward to the midseason premieres, and I’m focused on developing new ideas that may be coming to the small screen in coming seasons.
